IE/PB Link

As an autonomous component, the IE/PB link forms a seamless transition between Industrial Ethernet and PROFIBUS.

PROFInet defines an engineering model for distributed automation solutions and a model for system-wide communication through PROFIBUS and Industrial Ethernet with IT standards.

PROFInet enables communication relationships of PROFIBUS devices among one another and to Ethernet devices. The IE/PB link supports not only connection of simple DP slaves but also connection of PROFIBUS devices with loadable functionality in the form of a program e.g.an ET 200S with CPU.

This means that it is possible to realize vertical integration, from control level through to field level. Implementation for Component based Automation on the basis of the new PROFInet standards of the PNO.
This standard supports:

• Component technology in automation
• Graphical configuration of communication between intelligent devices instead of laboriously programming
• Multivendor, plant-wide engineering
• Component based automation allows access to PROFInet component variables from all standard PC applications with OPC client interface, e.g. visualization systems. The objects can be selected directly from a variable selection list of the selected PROFInet components.

The IE/PB link also offers the following functions:

• S7 routing:
  Enables PG/OP communication between networks through S7 routing, i.e.all S7 stations can be remotely programmed from the PG on Industrial Ethernet or PROFIBUS. Visualization data of S7 stations on PROFIBUS can be accessed by control and monitoring stations on Industrial Ethernet.
• Data record routing (PROFIBUS DP):
  This enables e.g.a PROFIBUS field device to be parameterized and diagnosed with SIMATIC PDM (on the PC) on the Industrial Ethernet through the IE/PB link.
