Siemens offers PROFIBUS link devices for different tasks:
- Communication between two PROFIBUS DP masters
- Connecting RS232C devices to PROFIBUS DP
- Connecting PROFIBUS devices through a wireless network
DP/DP Coupler
Two PROFIBUS DP masters cannot exchange data between each other. They need a DP slave device in between, which belongs to both DP masters.
- Connect two independent PROFIBUS DP networks together
- Both PROFIBUS networks can have different parameter e.g. different transmission speed
- Represents an independent DP slave to each PROFIBUS DP master
- 0-244 Byte input and 0-244 Byte output user data can be exchanged
- Transmission speed up to 12 Mbaud
DP/RS232C Link
Devices with an RS232C interface can be directly connected to PROFIBUS DP using the RS232C link. The link is used as a gateway and operates as a PROFIBUS DP slave.
- Converter between an RS232C (V.24) interface and PROFIBUS DP
- The link supports the procedures:
- The 3964R procedure
- A free ASCII protocol with control over Character delay time, Start / End delimiter or constant data length
- 0-224 Byte input and 0-224 Byte output user data can be exchanged
- Transmission speed up to 12 Mbaud
Infrared Link Module
The ILM permits wireless – infrared – PROFIBUS data transmission to DP slave devices within a range of 15 meters.
- Wireless data transmission over short distances – up to 15 meter
- Illuminates a circle of 4 meter in diameter in 11 meter distance
- Transmission speed up to 1.5 Mbau

Communication Capabilites with an ILM:
- Connectivity: one-to-one or one-to-two between ILMs
- Communication with mobile devices / vehicles possible
- Communication with changing stations e.g. along a conveyor line
- ILM can replace worn systems such as slip rings
